3/9/15 Day 117

Today Nathan went to Juan's house to work in the morning however no one was around so he worked for a little while and then came home.  Natalia came over to visit this morning for a little while and we were all so excited to see her.  Her and I are due with baby girls about the same time in June!  Then in the afternoon we went to the river to play.

3/10/15 Day 118
This morning I went looking in different shops and read a book in a coffee shop for awhile while Nathan watched the kids.  It was really fun and relaxing to have so time by myself.  We also bought our bus tickets today to be able to get from here to Buenos Aires when we leave here on the 24th of March to go back to the States

3/11/15 Day 119
Nathan and Jayvin went to Juan's house this morning to work.  They worked awhile at Juan's house and then made it to Chito's house to visit for awhile.  This evening Nathan was able to give the devotions for the prayer meeting at the North zone church while Delbert interpreted.  It was a wonderful opportunity for Nathan.

3/12/15 Day 120
This morning there was a drizzly rain which in Illinois would be a blah, gloomy day, but here it was a welcomed relief from so many hot days.  We all worked on cleaning the house really well.  In the afternoon Lydia and I rode the bike to the North zone church building where they were having a garage sale to raise money for the daycare.  The daycare meets at the north zone church building and is an extension ministry of the church there.  This evening Pablo and Viviana along with their children Juan and Mateo came over for supper.  We all had a good time visiting.

3/13/15 Day 121
Nathan and Jayvin went to Juan's house this morning to clean the bathrooms at the retreat center and get things ready for a birthday party that will happen in the retreat center tomorrow.  Lydia, Liam and I did some errands around town and visited with Frieda for awhile.  This evening we went to the circus that had come to town.  The kids really enjoyed this.

3/14/15 Day 122
Today Nathan worked out at Juan's house from 9am-2pm doing weed wacking and helping the people get some supplies that they needed for the birthday party.  He then came home ate some lunch and was gone again by 5pm.  The men from the church were meeting together for games and supper tonight so Nathan went to that as well.

3/15/15 Day 123
Today we had a relaxing morning and cooked asado on the open fire for lunch.  This evening at 7pm all church zones met in the central church for worship together.

Happy birthday Lydia

3/2/15 Day 110 thru 3/6/15 Day 114
This whole week Nathan has been getting up early and going to Juan's house for prayer and devotions with him and then working on the pool, mowing grass, and cutting down a tree for the rest of the time of being there each day.  On Tuesday Rafa and Nata came over for supper and we all had a really good time together.  On Wednesday Juan picked us up about lunch time and we met Nathan out at his house to have asado with Raymond for lunch.  Then in the afternoon we visited with Claudia.  Nathan and Lydia went to the North zone for their prayer meeting this evening as well.  On Friday Juan picked us up again about lunch time and we met Nathan at his house to have asado together and then in the afternoon we swam in the pool as a family.

3/7/15 Day 115
Today we spent celebrating Lydia's 5th birthday.  In the evening we went to Chito and Mary's house and they had a birthday party for Lydia with Valentine and Pedro as well.  She made a beautiful looking birthday cake for Lydia and even had a balloon pinata.  Then some friends came over for supper to celebrate Lydia's birthday.  We didn't get home until about midnight.  Lydia was very happy for such a fun day.

3/8/15 Day 116
This morning we relaxed and worked on making a larger meal for lunch and then in the evening we went to the South zone church for their worship service at 7pm.

traveling to the mission sites in Sierra Grande and Las Grutas, AR

2/21/15 Day 101
We arrived in Sierra Grande late last night and ate supper with Miguel and Angela (missionaries on sight) and Rafael and Natalia (who brought us there) and then went to bed.  This morning we played at Miguel and Angela’s house in Sierra Grande and talked to one another.  Last time we were here we spent more than a week with Miguel and Angela so it was very nice to be with them again and catch up on things.  They have been living in Sierra Grande at the mission sight for 8 years now since they left their home in Choele Choel to be the full time missionaries here in Sierra Grande.  This afternoon they took us to a community garage sale.  Nathan found a t-shirt and an ostrich egg he bought.  I guess you’ll never know what you’ll find at a garage sale.  This evening Miguel and Angela had an Esquilita (Kid’s club) and three middle school aged girls showed up.  Lydia loved playing with them and we had a good time of Bible study and getting to know them.

2/22/15 Day 102
This morning we went to the sierra’s (hills) in Sierra Grande.  We climbed some of the hills for awhile and toured the museum that was there.  This evening we had a church meeting at 8pm and Miguel preached about Jesus being #1 in our hearts not #2.  It was challenging and convicting and hard to do without the Holy Spirit’s help.

2/23/15 Day 103
This morning Nathan cooked up the ostrich egg for breakfast.  It tasted much different that a chicken egg--- it had more of a fishy taste.  This morning we said our goodbye’s to Miguel and Angela and then at 9am we caught a bus going to Las Grutas where the ILPA team has been working this weekend. We met up with the ILPA team and talked with them for ~ 2 hours before they left to go back to Choele Choel.  We said our good bye’s to Jacob and Elizabeth as they are heading back to Illinois.  This evening after the ILPA team had left Las Grutas our family walked to the center of town in Las Grutas to see what was going on and we had an icecream treat together.

2/24/15 Day 104
This morning we walked the beach and looked for shells and pretty rocks.  This kids loved this and then in the afternoon we spent the afternoon playing in the sand at the beach and splashing in the ocean.  Later this evening we talked to an older couple that runs a small grocery store up the way from the mission site we stayed at here and who also takes part in the church services that they have at the mission site.  It was good to get to know them.  Then after talking to then for about an hour we walked to the center of town again to have supper and to see what was going on.

2/25/15 Day 105
This morning we walked again on the beach looking for shells and pretty rocks.   This afternoon we made a sand castle on the beach and played in the ocean.  Late in the afternoon Juan and Floyd came to pick us up  and we headed back to Choele Choel.

2/26/15 Day 106
This morning Nathan and Jayvin went to Juan’s house to work on the pool and cut down more of the fallen tree.   While they were gone Lydia, Liam and I went to Delbert and Frieda’s house to talk with them.  Frieda wasn’t able to get her chemotherapy that she was supposed to this week because of no medicine available and she needs to schedule for another blood transfusion soon but Delbert wasn’t able to get her a doctors appointment today.  Please remember them in your prayers as this is a very trying time for them as they work through Frieda’s cancer treatments.  Nathan and Jayvin then came home for lunch and Nathan went back this afternoon to Juan’s house to work on the pool again.

2/27/15 Day 107
Today Nathan and Lydia went to Juan’s house to work on the pool and cut down more of the fallen tree and then this afternoon we all ended up taking a very long nap.  It sure felt good after so many wonderful activities that we have been a part of in recent days.

2/28/15 Day 108
Early this morning Nathan mowed Delbert and Frieda’s lawn and then he took Lydia and Jayvin to work at Juan’s house for the morning.  Liam and I had a wonderful morning of playing together one on one.  In the afternoon we went to Chito and Mary’s house to talk and drink mate.  We ended up staying there for supper as well.  They have been really hospitable to us while we’ve been here and they are some of the first people who have started the mission site in Las Grutas.  They along with a team from Choele Choel go there once a month to have service there in Las Grutas at the mission site we stayed at for two days.

3/1/15 Day 109
This morning we rested and enjoyed playing together as a family.  For lunch Nathan cooked some meat on the asado.  Then we took a rest in the afternoon and at 7pm this evening we had church in the central zone.  All church zones met in the central zone for the worship service.  Lydia went to Sunday School as well and really enjoyed that.  She is very social and isn’t afraid to make new friends which is why I think she is picking up on the Spanish language so quickly.

a difficult week but things are looking up now

2/8/15 Day 88
Last night was a rough one between the torrential downpour of rain that came into our house again and the restless sleep that Liam had I was thankful for the morning.  This morning when Liam woke up he still had a slight fever but after breakfast he was just fine.  Water had come into the church building as well so Nathan worked some this morning on getting that cleaned up and we packed some more of our stuff in suitcases.  For lunch we did an asado with Jacob and Elizabeth.  This evening we were going to go to the South zone for church however Liam slept from 2pm until-he wouldn't wake up for supper and I could tell he felt warm again.  We didn't go to church then and by 9pm I took his temperature and it was 104 degrees and Nathan quick gave him a cool shower to bring down the temperature fast.  It didn't help too much.  By 10pm we had Brenda phone Elizabeth for us so she could help me take Liam to the hospital.  We were there at the hospital waiting and waiting and waiting.  There were lots of kids there with high fevers......we weren't done until 1am.  They gave him fever reducing meds and said that he had a double ear infection and one ear was really red.  My baby who was with a very high fever and very sleepy and a worried mommy......a night I won't forget very soon and I don't ever want to repeat!  It was so very difficult!

2/9/15 Day 89
Today we thought we were going to move to the farm (la chacra) by Juan's house but I guess the other family isn't moving out until today so we will move tomorrow.  Liam is still very sick and without constant fever reducing meds he's still running 103 degree temp.  Exhausted, worried and emotional all describe me very well at the moment.  This afternoon Nathan saw Romiro at the grocery store and he said they weren't moving until Tuesday, so maybe we won't move until wednesday.  The stress of it all is wearing on me.

2/10/15 Day 90
Today we spent packing the last of our things and taking care of a sick baby.  This morning he still had a high fever.  By the afternoon though he seemed to be doing a little better.  This evening we rented Charlotte's web from the movie store and watched it with the kids.

2/11/15 Day 91
This morning at 10am Chito's truck was supposed to come to load up all our stuff and move to la chacra, however it was closer to lunch time that they came.  We got to la chacra and Romiro's family still wasn't gone yet.  We had ~3 awkward hours of moving our stuff in while they moved their stuff out.  We probably should have waited until tomorrow to move but we didn't know.  I was exhausted and upset going to bed tonight.  The family that had lived here previously left the home very dirty and in major disrepair.  Plus we have no washing machine now, no hot running water, no care to get groceries and I fell asleep to the smell of sewage outside our bedroom window and tears.  This feels very hard!

2/12/15 Day 92
I woke up to tears and the weight of a dirty house and a little boy who still is very fussy and wanting to be held all of the time.  AMAZING things happened today though.  Claudia, Elizabeth, and Brenda came to help clean the house and after they were done I felt like I could breathe again.  It was definently a labor of love.  Juan also brought me to the store so I stocked up on groceries for the next couple of days.  We also took showers today all of which feels AMAZING.  Today Nathan helped Jacob and Juan clean out the big pool in preparation for the young adult camp that is happening this weekend.

2/13/15 Day 93
The young adult camp started today and today is Liam's first day of feeling better and not being so fussy all of the time.  Today Nathan worked on cleaning the pool and cutting down a tree and we had asado with Raymond this evening.

2/14/15 Day 94
The speaker that came for the young adult camp has an 8 year old daughter and a 5year old son, so Lydia and Jayvin are loving having some kids around to play with.  This afternoon we went to town to buy groceries and walk around a little bit to talk and regroup from so many stressful days.

2/15/15 Day 95
This morning everyone met in the central zone church building for worship.  Lydia and I spent the majority of the service crying.  Lydia wanted to go home (where is our home exactly) to snuggle with me and I was feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and inadequate.  Oh the weight of so many stressful days.  This evening we talked to Juan about moving back to the apartment in town and coming to work at his house everyday.  The house has some major repair work that needs to be done to it and on Wedesday night Nathan slept in the house and woke up the next morning to red, hurting, swollen eyes from mold that is in the bedroon.  He then slept Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights outside in our tent.  This situation is definently not working for our family life.

2/16/15 Day 96
Today we moved back to the apartment in town and unpacked everything yet again.  We spent the day regrouping and relaxing from a very stressful week.

2/17/15 Day 97
Today is a holiday here and some of the young adults from the camp are still here.  We all ate lunch together and hung out this afternoon.

2/18/15 Day 98
This morning Nathan rode bike out to Juan's house with Jayvin to work.  Juan came and got the rest of us ~11am and we made asado for lunch and then were in charge of cleaning the bathrooms and helping with a group that had rented the facilties for a birthday party.

2/19/15 Day 99
This morning I did errands with the kids while Nathan worked at Juan's house.  This afternoon Nathan went back to Juan's house to clean the pool and he took Lydia with him so she could swim.  I took a nap with the boys and then when Nathan got back we did a few more errands around town in preparation for this weekend.

2/20/15 Day 100
Today Nathan worked at Juan's house for a few short hours this morning and then we packed up our bags for our trip.  We are leaving this afternoon for Las Grutas/Sierra Grande with the ILPA team.  Our family will stay in Sierra Grande with the missionary family there for Saturday and Sunday.  Miguel and Angela live and do mission work in Sierra Grande and last time we were here we really got to know them well.  We are looking forward to reconnecting with them again.  Then on Sun or Monday we will take a bus back  to Las Grutas and meet up with the ILPA team.  They are then leaving to go home on Monday and our family is planning on staying in Las Grutas until Wednesday to enjoy the beach.  We would appreciate your prayers for health and safe travels for all as we spend a couple of days traveling.

a hot hot week and a baby sonogram

2/2/15 Day 82
Today we spent regrouping from a busy weekend.  Nathan finished covering the seats of the merry-go-round for the kids at the daycare and I did a couple of loads of laundry.

2/3/15 Day 83
This morning Nathan and Jayvin went out to Juan's house to work.  Lydia, Liam and I walked with Elizabeth to Rafael and Natalia's house to have lunch with the ILPA team (Nathan and Jayvin joined us as well).  Then Natalia, Elizabeth, Brenda and I spent the afternoon at Natalia's house.  It was very wonderful and much needed for me to have a kid-free afternoon with the ladies thanks to Nathan.  In the late afternoon Elizabeth, Nathan and I went to the clinic so I could have my half way point sonogram.  The good news is that there is only one baby growing inside and everything as far as growth wise is right on track.  A wonderful praise!  Then later in the evening Elizabeth took me to a rehabiliation/massage place where I recieved a neck massage.  Early this morning I was in chronic pain in my neck-a migraine that wouldn't let me sleep and hurt like I've never had before.  Thankfully the massage I recieved really helped and it was very relaxing.

2/4/15 Day 84
This morning Nathan and Lydia went to Juan's house to work and the boys and I went to a few different stores around town for some things that we needed.  This evening we went to the central zone church for the prayer meeting.

2/5/15 Day 85
This morning Nathan and Jayvin went to Juan's house to work and Lydia, Liam and I went to the library to check out some children's books.  It was the first time going there since they were closed for vacation in the month of January.  The kids loved being able to pick out some books to look at at home.  This evening we went to Pablo and Claudia Cifuentes' house for supper and to visit.  We always enjoy so much when people invite us over for supper and this was no exception.  We had a wonderful evening of food and visiting.  The only bad thing is Jayvin was running a fever.

2/6/15 Day 86
This morning we were all going to go to Juan's house but the weather was kind of rainy off and on and Juan came to get us a little later in the morning and we were in over our heads in laundry since our washing machine hasn't been working since the beginning of this week.  Juan graciously brought all of our dirty laundry to the laundromat so we could literally have a clean start.  So instead of going to his house today, we did some errands around town and took care of Liam who has had a fever today.

2/7/15 Day 87
Liam was still running a fever today with it spiking to 103 degrees and he wanted to be held most of the day.  He also took a five hour nap this afternoon.  Nathan mowed Delbert and Frieda's lawn and then I went to the laundromat to get all of our clean clothes.  We started packing up our stuff to move out to Juan's house on Monday.

Monday, February 2, 2015

1/26/15 Day 75
This morning we spent cleaning up and regrouping from the weekend and then about 11am we went with Rafael and Natalia to the river to fish and play and have a picnic lunch.  They found a great in let spot where the water wasn't flowing as fast and the kids loved playing in the water.  When we got back Lydia got a hair cut from Elizabeth which she was very excited about.

1/27/15 Day 76
Today we walked to the daycare together to water the trees and grass and then bought groceries at Anonima.  This evening we went to Rollo and Evelyn's house at about 7pm and stayed until midnight.  It was fun talking to them and learning how to make some food typical to Argentina.  Our kids also loved playing with their kids.  We are so greatful for their friendship to us.

1/28/15 77
This morning Nathan went to Juan's house to help get things accomplished and cleaned up.  This weekend the Patagonia Mennonite Conference is in Choele Choel.  It is 3 days (Fri, Sat, Sun) of worship, meetings and encouraging missionaries and one another in Jesus name.  Many people will be traveling here from all over the Patagonia area.  I was going to take the kids to the park for something to do to pass the time while Nathan worked, however we decided to walk the 50 minute trek to Juan's house to play and help out there.  We only walked about half way there and got to Chito's house and he offered us a ride the rest of the way---that really felt like the Lord provided for us.  We spent the morning painting the fence and helping out at Juan's house in preparation for the convention this weekend.  This evening we walked to a church zone that is three years old (pretty new) and one we had never been to before called Las  Bardas.  Brenda told us how to get there and once we were close we couldn't quite find the building.  Then a brother from the church came out of his house and explained to us where it was and then we also saw Pablo Cifuentes walking down the road and we knew for sure where to go then---another way the Lord provided for us.  It was wonderful and exciting to see this new church development.  After the church meeting we walked to a families house to talk to awhile until we walked back home late at night.  A very full day of the Lord's blessings!

1/29/15 Day 78
This morning Nathan helped at Juan's house again getting things in order for the convention this weekend and the kids and I stayed home.  Next week the family that lives in the house behind Juan's house will be moving to Valchetta and our plan is to move into that house behind Juan's house.  Please pray for us as we make this transition.  I am 20 weeks pregnant today and can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going.  At this point I feel like I need about 60 weeks of pregnancy.  However, we feel very blessed to welcome another sweet little one whenever he/she comes.

1/30/15 Day 79 & 1/31/15 Day 80
The conference starts with meetings and worship in the morning and worship in the evening as well.  These two days we spent in meetings and worship and playing out at Juan's house in the afternoon with many other people.

2/1/15 Day 81
We had a corporate worship service this morning with everyone that had come for the convention this weekend.  There were so many people and it was a wonderful time worshipping together.  This evening we walked down to the river to cool off and play soccer.
